Michaela Anne Desert Dove

Michaela Anne releasing 'Desert Dove' (stream "Child of the Wind")

Country singer Michaela Anne has lived all over the world but is currently based in Nashville, and she’s gearing up to release her first album for Yep Roc, Desert Dove, on September 27. The album was co-produced by Sam Outlaw and Delta Spirit‘s Kelly Winrich, and it was made with help from guitarist Brian Whelan (Dwight Yoakam, Jim Lauderdale), fiddler Kristin Weber (Kacey Musgraves, Margo Price), and drummers Mark Stepro (Ben Kweller, Butch Walker) and Daniel Bailey (Everest, Father John Misty).

We’re premiering new single “Child of the Wind,” which should appeal to fans of some of the above-mentioned artists. It’s a catchy, breezy dose of modern country, and here’s what Michaela tells us about it:

This is my story. But it’s also a story for the searchers, the military kids, the touring musicians, the wayward souls prone to wanderlust, the adventurers, those of us who just can’t sit still literally or figuratively. It’s for those of us who are prone to go, to see, to do, to learn, to feel. And for those of us who often feel both exhilarated and heartbroken by this temperament of ours.

I started writing the song alone while living in Brooklyn years ago but it wasn’t until I had a few more years of living, touring, traveling, and moving to Nashville that I was able to finish it. It feels like a song that grew with me throughout a few pivotal years of my life and feels fitting that it started in Brooklyn, which I think has greatly shaped and influenced my sense of who I am, my art, and my appreciation for different ways of living.
