Mikal Cronin @ Webster Hall 12/11/2013
Despite being generally averse to the spotlight, Cronin stole the show with his irreverent flair for dramatics. A bare minimum of his time was spent crooning to the mic, whimpering soft verses or bellowing jubilant choruses. Mostly, he relinquished his energies to a passionate, almost spiritual guitar performance. Ankles crooked out the sides of his legs, hair streaming down his face, spasmodic limbs taking on convulsive shapes--Cronin seemed to be at once playing to the crowd and playing to himself. All in all, a rare night where each of the four acts proved intriguing. - [CMJ]
It's been a pretty good year for Mikal Cronin, whose second album, MCII, was one of the year's best guitar-pop albums and has shown up on a lot of year end lists (including mine). He capped off 2013 with a handful of shows, one of which happened here in NYC on December 11 at Webster Hall which also featured sets from Nude Beach, The Entrance Band and his Merge labelmates Saint Rich. Pictures from that show are in this post.
The very next night (12/12), Mikal headed to Chicago for a show at Logan Square Auditorium and you can check out pictures from that show at BV Chicago. More pics from Webster Hall below...
