Molly Ringwald in Sixteen Candles

Molly Ringwald performing at Birdland this week; 'Ferris Fest' coming to Chicago in May; John Hughes Trivia in Brooklyn

The 30th anniversary of classic John Hughes film Pretty in Pink was on Sunday (2/28), and if you’d like to stay in that mood, there are a few more related events happening in NYC. Molly Ringwald will be performing jazzy cabaret this week at Birdland from tonight (3/1) through Saturday (3/5) with two shows per night Wednesday – Saturday. Tickets are on sale. You may remember she released jazz vocal album Except Sometimes in 2013 which included a cover of Simple Minds‘ “(Don’t You) Forget About Me” which was the theme to The Breakfast Club. You can stream that, and the whole LP via Spotify, below.

If you’re a John Hughes super-fan, come to Williamsburg’s Videology on Sunday (3/6) for John Hughes Triva which is hosted — shameless plug — by this writer. With it being the 30th anniversary of both Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, it’s going to be strictly about the six teen films Hughes made in the ’80s. (Sorry, Curly Sue fans.) There will be prizes and maybe a surprise or two, and it’s free. 7 PM.

Speaking of Ferris, there will be a three-day Ferris Fest in the Chicago area on May 20 – 22. Events include a screening of the film at the John and Nancy Hughes Theatre (with a Q&A with some of the film’s stars), a bus tour of famous locations in the film, a live recreation of the “Twist & Shout” parade sequence, and an exact recreation of Ferris’ bedroom you can visit. Full details are here.
