Mono releasing new LP this week (stream it), touring with Emma Ruth Rundle

Japanese post-rock vets Mono are releasing their tenth album, Nowhere Now Here, this Friday (1/25) via Temporary Residence Ltd (pre-order), and we’re premiering a full stream of the album ahead of its release. Nowhere Now Here sees Mono experimenting with electronics, it’s their first album with new drummer Dahm Majuri Cipolla, and it’s the first time that Tamaki Kunishi has added her vocals to a Mono song. The song with Tamaki singing is recent single “Breathe,” which brings Mono almost into Beach House territory, but don’t let that song make you think Mono have gone soft. While Nowhere Now Here does have some of Mono’s most gentle, ethereal music, it also has at least as many crushingly heavy, near-metal moments. With the many peaks and valleys of Mono’s sound here, it’s the kind of album that’s best played start to finish (and best played loudly), and that can truly suck you in and transport you to another world if you do so. Listen to the whole thing below.

Mono are also touring this year, not just in support of Nowhere Now Here but also to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band. They’ve just announced a North American leg of the tour, with well-matched opener Emma Ruth Rundle. That tour goes down in May and June, hitting NYC, LA, Chicago, Austin, Toronto, and much more.

The NYC show happens on May 22 at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (1/25) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
