Sandy Benefit

There have been a lot of benefit concerts here in NYC to aid Hurricane Sandy victims and there are likely to be even more to come. There certainly are a lot of people who still need our help. Here are a few we just learned about.

The Babies record release show at Knitting Factory on Tuesday (11/13) we already alerted you to has become a Hurricane Sandy benefit of sorts. You can get $2 off the door with a donation for Hurricane Sandy Relief. Here’s what’s needed:

-Heavy duty cleaning supplies: bleach, industrial trash bags, contractor bags, brooms, mops, buckets, simple green, work gloves, goggles
-Blankets,
-Warm clothing, like heavy coats, gloves, hats, scarves.
-Diapers, baby food, bottles, formula.
-Food in general but specifically food that is appropriate for children (snack foods, cereal, rice, pb&j, bread)-
-Some places need flashlights & batteries, especially C or D.

You can stream The Babies’ new album, Our House on the Hill (out 11/13), in full over at SPIN and is really good, well worth a listen. The Babies have become a formidable live force too and, if truth be told, I like them more than either Vivian Girls or Woods (with whom they share members and I like just fine). We’re also giving a pair of tickets away to this show (which also features Alex Bleeker and the Freaks and the Sundelles) and details are at the bottom of this post (And if you win, bring extra stuff!).

Also on Tuesday in Williamsburg, the Finger on the Pulse / Snacky Tunes guys are throwing a Sandy relief benefit at Cameo featuring Moon Hooch, Emil & Friends and Erika Spring with DJ sets from Computer Magic. $5 at the door with 100% of the door and 10% of the bar going to the Red Hook Initiative. Flyer for the show is below.

Backing up a bit, on Sunday afternoon (11/11) at Matchless there’s a benefit show with BV faves Heliotropes, DC bandShark Week, plus Zula, and Fantasmes. The party goes from 3 – 7 PM and is a $10 donation at the door. 100% door + 10% bar will be donated to New York Cares.

Shark Week are also playing another Sandy relief benefit the night before (11/10) at XPO 929 with Love Darling, and Clinical Trials. $8 at the door, more info here.

Flyers and contest details are below.
