NYC’s inaugural Panorama festival recently went down on Randall’s Island. You can browse the ‘Panorama’ tag for tons more coverage. Here’s more pictures and recap of Saturday (7/23):

Saturday of Panorama was an action-packed lineup full of back to back stage hopping. The day started with trying to find some escape from the heat in the dark, A/C-filled Parlor tent where Horse Meat Disco was playing. The London-based group played upbeat disco music to a happy crowd. There were fun-loving dance battles among audience members and even a couple of security guards were getting groovy to the music.

Late Saturday afternoon Daughter performed. The trio played a fantastic set with singer/guitarist Elena Trono sounding as beautiful as ever. The band played their signature ethereal, electronic folk to a captivated crowd.

Foals took the late Saturday afternoon spot at the main Panorama stage. The quintet played an upbeat indie-rock show, although they did talk about how they believe the “end of the world seems like it’s rapidly approaching”. Foals played a great set including hits such as “Mountain At My Gates” and “My Number”.

Anderson .Paak was a must-see show on Saturday. The talented singer, rapper and producer played an exciting show and kept the energy high. He showed off his years of musical experience, playing drums while singing and rapping.

The National played early evening Saturday. The National played songs from their most recent album Trouble Will Find Me as well as older favorites like “England” and “Bloodbuzz Ohio”. The group also played two new songs, “The Day I Die” and “Find A Way”.

Instead of staying at the main stage after The National and waiting for headliner Kendrick Lamar, many went to the Pavilion stage to see Sufjan Stevens. Sufjan went above and beyond to make this show as colorful and over the top as possible. The set started out with his infamous wings and a performance of his song “Seven Swans” that ended with his banjo being smashed. Following that, the show just kept getting brighter and more neon. He played “Too Much”, Vesuvius”, “I Want To Be Well” and “Impossible Soul” – a good amount of songs from his Age of Adz album. The whole set, which had choreographed dancing throughout, was fun to watch. At one point Sufjan quoted Beyonce with “okay ladies now let’s get in formation” before breaking into a choreographed routine with his dancers. The show ended with a bright, happy rendition of his song “Chicago”.

Kendrick Lamar headlined Panorama Saturday night. The Compton rapper spoke about how there’s recently been so much tragedy in the world but “we gon’ be alright”, leading into an energetic performance of his song “Alright”. He played a few other songs off To Pimp A Butterfly, including “King Kunta” and “i”. Kendrick spoke to his day one fans, dedicating older songs to them. Kendrick played a couple Schoolboy Q songs as well, and the crowd loved it all.

Saturday also had The Julie Ruin, Ex Hex, Flosstradamus, AlunaGeorge, Museum of Love, Tokimonsta and more. Pictures in the gallery above.
