Armen Ra & Mr Twin Sister playing immersive "garden party" event

Atlas Obscura is once again taking over the beautiful Untermyer Garden Conservancy in Yonkers, NY on Sunday, July 21 for the 2019 edition of The Great Forgotten Garden Party. The unique, immersive event brings live music and performance art to the sprawling gardens, and this year it includes sets from theremin virtuoso Armen Ra and jazzy, danceable pop act Mr Twin Sister as well as water nymphs, belly dancers, libations, a bug whisperer, and more. Check out pictures from the 2018 edition in the gallery above.

UPDATE: Organizers have postponed the event a week to Sunday, July 28 because of the heat wave forecasted through the weekend. They write:

For the comfort, safety, and enjoyment of our guests, we’ve made the tough decision to postpone The Great Forgotten Garden Party one week, to July 28 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

The following week’s forecast calls for temperatures in the mid-80s—much better conditions for wandering the gardens and enjoying the theremins, snake dancers, water nymphs, and sunset rituals. We hope to see you there.

Atlas Obscura hosts unique events all over the world, in cemeteries, theatres, museums, prisons, mansions and beyond. Some of their upcoming NYC events include a guided beer tasting at Evergreen Cemetery, a collection of collectors at the 14th year of The City Reliquary’s Collectors’ Night at Bell House, a behind-the-scenes bridge and tunnel tour in Greenpoint and Long Island City, and a session on medicinal herbs and berries at Fort Tryon Park.
