MTV bringing back 'Yo! MTV Raps' w/ all-star 30th anniversary Brooklyn show

MTV is bringing back Yo! MTV Raps, the groundbreaking hip hop series that ran 1988 to 1995. The network says it will “reinvent the franchise for a new generation” and hopefully that will go better than their TRL reboot. For the relaunch, they’re throwing a Yo! MTV Raps 30th Anniversary concert at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on June 1. It’s truly an all-star lineup of classic hip-hip, including Big Daddy Kane and the Juice Crew, Eric B & Rakim, Doug E. Fresh, KRS-One and Boogie Down Productions, EPMD, Flavor Flav of Public Enemy, Melle Mel & the Furious Five, the Pharcyde, Brand Nubian, Nice and Smooth, Onyx, Black Sheep, Das EFX, Special Ed, Yo-Yo, Kid Capri, and Young Black Teenagers (their first show since 1994). Original hosts Ed Lover & Doctor Dre, Fab 5 Freddy and T-Money will be there too, as will DJs Skribble, Red Alert and Chuck Chillout.

Tickets for the Yo! MTV Raps 30th anniversary concert go on sale Saturday, April 21 at noon with an internet presale beginning Thursday (4/19) at noon. If you can’t make it to the show, MTV will be livestreaming it too.

Big Daddy Kane, EMPD and Nice and Smooth are all also playing free SummerStage shows this year.
