Municipal Waste's Dave Witte has a new vegan food truck; Tony Foresta responds to Kathy Griffin controversy

Richmond thrashers Municipal Waste‘s first album in five years, Slime and Punishment, is out today via Nuclear Blast (stream it below). That’s not the only thing going on in the world of Municipal Waste though.

Drummer Dave Witte (also of Discordance Axis, Melt Banana, Human Remains, Burnt by the Sun, and a bunch of other bands) and his girlfriend April Viar are set to roll out their new vegan food truck, Go Vegan Go, at the Richmond Vegeterian Festival this Saturday (6/24). According to RVA Mag, the recipes are all Viar’s and Witte will be helping out in the kitchen. Witte said, “That’s where the magic is with her and her food. She’s a great home cook, she’s always cooked for me and we figured you know, let’s do this. I’ve always wanted to do a food truck, the timing was right, we wanted to be mobile, we didn’t want to have a brick and mortar so we thought a food truck was the way to go.” Here’s more about what to expect:

Go Go Vegan Go’s entire menu is vegan and includes cashew cheese, cheese paninis, vegetable paninis, chimichangas smothered in cheese sauce, tacos, grilled cheese, a burger, chocolate mousse, coffee chocolate balls, and chocolate covered cookie dough all crafted by Viar. Witte said a big highlight on the menu is the “Not So Pad Thai Fries.”

”They’re super delicious. Right before we ended our term at the {Commercial} taphouse, April brought those on the menu and they did extremely well,” he said. “People still ask about them so it’s pretty exciting. It’s pretty much Pad Thai with French fries instead of noodles.”

They have more appearances planned for after Richmond Vegeterian Festival too. All upcoming dates and locations are listed below. Read more at RVA Mag and follow Go Vegan Go on Facebook.

In other Municipal Waste news, they responded to the Kathy Griffin controversy. After Kathy Griffin faced much scrutiny for doing a photoshoot that depicted her holding a beheaded Donald Trump, her attorney Lisa Bloom used Municipal Waste as an example of a “male artist [that has] created far more disturbing imagery,” referencing their t-shirt with “an image of Trump with a bloody gunshot to his head.” Lead shouter Tony Foresta thought Kathy should be able to get away with it too. He said to Revolver, “Maybe it’s because she’s mainstream. But I think everyone should have the right to desecrate Donald Trump’s body. It’s just fucked up that she’s being victimized for it.”

Municipal Waste are currently on Warped Tour with GWAR, Sick Of It All, The Dickies, The Alarm, TSOL, The Adolescents, War On Women, Candiria, Hatebreed, Anti-Flag, Strung Out, Valient Thorr, Riverboat Gamblers, Bad Cop / Bad Cop and more. The tour has a few NY/NJ stops in July (tickets). All dates and full lineup here.
