Akin to former travel partners U2’s Innocence + Experience tour in 2015, Muse’s ambitious, bombastic sound was met with equally extravagant effects, which played closely to the “Drones” image. Large, inflatable orbs (complete with searchlights) drifted eerily across the arena at the shows’ outset, and men dressed as dystopian “human drones” took sentry around stage. But the show’s primary trick was a series of translucent curtains hung from ceiling to stage, on which black-and-white videos of geometric shapes, constellations and battle scenes were looped. The aforementioned “puppet show,” which was tied to Bellamy’s every movement, was the technology’s most captivating moment. – [NJ.com]

Muse are not a “less is more” kind of band. Bombast and theatricality are their bread and butter and they brought that and more to two NYC-area shows this week — Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on 1/27 and NJ’s Prudential Center on 1/29. This is the Drones tour, and they took that literally with a dozen or so glowing orbs flying around the Prudential Center on Friday night. (There was a spaceship too.) Plus: a state-of-the-art projection system, solos, crescendo upon crescendo, culminating the only way it possibly could: with their most over-the-top single, “Knights of Cydonia.”
