Mutual Benefit played 2 NYC shows w/ Leapling (Merc pics)

The stage was shared by six members in total, including Jordan’s sister and a live violinist. The natural human emotion that he created on the album springs to life in the live setting, recreated in a scarily accurate fashion.

There was plenty of clever stage banter from Jordan, who mentioned how in a interview he was misquoted as saying that he believed in love, when really he said he didn’t. His response from this interview has sort of followed him around to other interviews and features, and he wanted to clarify that “romantic love is bullshit…unless you find someone special.” It was his sense of humor along with his beautiful music that made his performance quite a memorable evening. Jordan Lee’s art pop collective Mutual Benefit wrapped up their tour over the weekend with NYC shows at Mercury Lounge on Friday (2/8) at Knitting Factory on Saturday (2/8) (the latter moved from Rough Trade). We caught Jordan’s gorgeous music and stage banter at the sold-out Mercury Lounge show, and pictures of that show are in this post. Local support on both dates came from Leapling.
