Nebraska’s local WOWT News reports:

BELLEVUE, Neb. (WOWT) — Music fans say they’re feeling cheated, some even say devastated after shelling out big bucks for bands they never got to see.

Two of the biggest acts slated to perform this weekend at the River City Music Festival in Bellevue never took the stage.

“I spent $140. I bought VIP tickets,” Ben Baldwin told WOWT 6 News. [ed. note: was that with or without the Groupon?]

Baldwin was hoping to see acts like Keller Williams and George Clinton Saturday night, but when he showed up to Sokol Park those acts were nowhere to be found.

“I definitely feel like I spent a lot more money than I should have for sure,” Baldwin said.

By Sunday evening, virtually any evidence of social media pages and websites tied to the event were gone, which has left fans who wanted to have their voices heard even more frustrated

Some fans told WOWT 6 News that the River City Music Festival posted a statement apologizing to fans on Facebook, but now the page and statement are nowhere to be found. For upset fans, the focus turned to the promoter in charge of the event.

“I just don’t think he made enough money to cover the cost of the bands,” said Baldwin.

Keller William issued a statement:

I’m truly sorry for canceling the Nebraska festival. I feel like shit and that’s a feeling that I’m not used to feeling. I love to play festivals. I’m so grateful to get the opportunity to play so many. Over the years, my team and I have finally learned to follow our guts. The first couple bad checks we received, we got mad. Lawyers were hired and more money was spent and it ended in a head shaking lesson learned. Who wants to admit that they don’t have the money to pay you? Not me. I admire all promoters and festival producers because they take a HUGE risk for all of our good times. Also because I could never do it. Where would my world be without them? Probably in a van down by the river.
So with this particular festival, my team and I had to follow our guts and pay attention to the red flags that the producers started to raise. To all the folks I inconvenienced with this decision, I’m truly sorry and hope I can make it up to you,personally…..some how. Kw.

George Clinton & Parliament/Funkadelic has yet to comment on the no-show. At least Matisyahu made the show which also had After Funk, Filibusta, and Satchel Grande on the bill. Not a great day to be a funk fan from Nebraska.
