Neko Case / Rhye / Majical Cloudz @ 50 Kent
The first of Northside's big concerts at 50 Kent, which were presented by Century 21, happened on Friday (6/12) with songwriter (and New Pornographer) Neko Case, R&B duo Rhye and Montreal's Majical Cloudz. Pictures from the night are in this post.
Majical Cloudz played a few new songs such as the heavily emotional "So Blue," as well as cuts off their debut album Impersonator. Frontman Devon Welsh, who has let his hair grow, admitted being in New York made him feel nervous: "It's not the people, it's just so big." LA's Rhye also brought a heavy emphasis on emotion and rhythm. Singer Milosh's seductive vocals seemed to have a trancelike affect on the audience who were clearly into it.
The audience was clearly into Neko Case as well, who had the audience in stitches with her banter, and rapt with her songs. "I take good care of my body...so why not give myself a yeast infection with these pants?" The stretchy pants in question were neon leopard print and she told the 50 Kent crowd she made them herself. Case and her band played a string of fan favorites such as "Deep Red Bells," and several tracks off her most recent album, 2013's The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You .
