Nellie McKay @ Spiegeltent in NYC 2008 (more by Chris La Putt)
Nellie McKay

"We invite you to visit for a free download of "Caribbean Time," the first single from her fifth album, Home Sweet Mobile Home. Written and arranged by Nellie and recorded in Jamaica with local musicians, "Caribbean Time" reflects her most culturally and musically diverse album yet.

"I have no idea how this album happened," says Nellie. "I guess I was looking for a sound to reflect our shrinking world and the bleed of culture crossing all kinds of borders." Reviewing a recent McKay show, Stephen Holden from The New York Times described her as a "vocal chameleon," and that varied musical palette is used to great effect on the 13 songs on Home Sweet Mobile Home.

Home Sweet Mobile Home is McKay's first album of all-original material since 2007's Obligatory Villagers and the follow up to 2009's Normal As Blueberry Pie - A Tribute to Doris Day."

Home Sweet Mobile Home, Nellie McKay's um, reggae album (which features two reggae songs), is out September 28th via Verve Records. As stated above, Nellie is giving away track, and now you can get a second one, pig noises and all, appropriately called "Unknown Reggae", above.

Not feeling the Jamaican vibe? No worries because Nellie will be singing and playing the piano at her next live live show (which presumably be a more traditional Nellie show). That is, Sunday at Highline Ballroom, part of the Highline Pianos series. Spencer Reed opens. Tickets are still on sale.
