Neon Indian & Friends covered Prince; Madonna, Stevie Wonder & Questlove paid tribute at Billboard Awards (video)
Neon Indian‘s Alan Palomo gathered up a few of his friends — Holy Ghost!, Kristin Kontrol, Ejecta, Xenia Rubbings, Adeline from Escort, Hannah Cohen and Midnight Magic — to pay tribute to Prince by covering his 1985 Around the World in a Day single “Pop Life.” The video is from the recording session which looks like was a good time. The cover itself doesn’t futz with Prince’s original much if at all. Check it out below.
In other Prince tribute news, The Billboard Awards happened on Sunday night (5/22) and Madonna covered “Nothing Compares 2U” and then brought out Stevie Wonder to sing “Purple Rain” with her. Questlove introduced the performance and later took to twitter to defend Madge after many criticized her on social media:
Every Prince rendition will not be a life changing orgasmic xperience. Just to SING his work is brave enough. Again feeling are on high

And EVERYBODY wants and deserves a chance to say goodbye in their own way. But remember: there will be AMAs, SoulTrain, NAACP, mtv, GRAMMYS

And a gazillion other tributes. But the point is let's not get ugly w playing the "Prince would and wouldn't approve" game.
