NYC-based pop punk newcomers Nervous Dater recently released their second EP, A Hundred Beers, which was produced by Hop Along's Joe Reinhart, who's also produced records for Modern Baseball and Joyce Manor. If you like those bands, there's a good chance you'll dig this too. The songs are catchy and upbeat, but there's sadness in the lyrics. Anxiety, death, and loss are all over these five songs, and Rachel Lightner has a hell of a voice to deliver these lyrics with.

I caught them over the weekend at Greenpoint DIY spot Aviv with The Obsessives, The Superweaks, and Heart Attack Man, and they won me over right way. There are more chances to see them in their hometown soon: The Barbershop on July 30 with Mover Shaker, Messy Middle, Fear Not Ourselves, and another band who don't have a name yet (the show is off the Alabama Ave J, you have to ask for the address). They also play Pianos on August 17.

All dates are listed, with a stream of the new EP and their video for "5th Floor Walkup," below.
