Basement Knockdown Center

new techno club BASEMENT opening at Knockdown Center (initial lineup)

Not only does Queens’ Knockdown Center host shows, there will now be a new techno club in the venue’s basement called — wait for it — BASEMENT. To quote Resident Advisor:

The new venue sits beneath the main hall of Knockdown Center in Queens. Accessible via a separate entrance, it’s situated in a network of brick tunnels that were originally used to heat the full building, which was built as a glass factory in 1903. BASEMENT’s owners describe the setup as an “industrial catacomb… making it ideal for techno.”

According to an email announcement, the club “will feature a state-of-the-art, Funktion-One sound system, and a custom lighting rig throughout the venue.” This follows the closure of Output (which had a Funktion-One soundsystem) earlier this year, and former Output director of operations Ria Katz (who now works at Knockdown Center) told VenuesNow earlier this year, “With Output closing there’s a need [for a space focused on underground techno].”

BASEMENT will open on May 10 with Rebekah, Heidi Sabertooth, Auspex, and Ne/Re/A. Other upcoming shows include Vatican Shadow, Silent Servant, Bryan Kasenic, Becka Diamond, Headless Horseman, the Wrecked party, and more. Full initial schedule below. Tickets for all shows are on sale now.
