Newport Folk Festival day 2 pics (Mumford & Sons, Jenny Lewis, more)

After kicking off on Friday, the 2018 edition of Newport Folk Festival continued on Saturday with sets from Courtney Barnett, Jenny Lewis (who had The Watson Twins with her), Cheech & Chong, Hamilton Leithauser and Rostam, Colter Wall, Shakey Graves, Phoebe Bridgers, Laura Veirs, Valerie June, Daniel Norgren, Nicole Atkins, Lukas Nelson and Promise of the Real (who were joined by Lucius), Hiss Golden Messenger, Bedouine, and more.

Along with The Watson Twins, Lukas Nelson and Lucius also joined Jenny Lewis for “Acid Tongue.” Watch video of that below.

Saturday’s unannounced headliner wound up being Mumford & Sons, and true to Newport tradition, their set was a communal affair with a bunch of different guests and covers. Brandi Carlile and Maggie Rogers joined the band to open their set with “Awake My Soul.” Later on, Brandi came back out for a Simon & Garfunkel cover, “The Boxer,” and for Marcus Mumford-supergroup The New Basement Tape’s “Kansas City,” the lyrics for which were written by Bob Dylan. Maggie Rogers also came back out, for a rendition of her own song “Alaska.” Phoebe Bridgers joined Mumford for a cover of Radiohead’s “All I Need,” and as a finale, she came back out, along with Brandi, Maggie, Phil Cook, Hiss Golden Messenger’s MC Taylor, and Mavis Staples for a rendition of “The Weight.” Watch video of “The Weight” and “All I Need” below, and check out pictures from the whole day in the gallery above.

Newport Folk Festival wraps up on Sunday, and some sets are streaming live. Catch up on our coverage of the festival so far with our pictures and recap of Friday HERE.
