Red Baraat

It’s always been hard to pin down the nature of this Brooklyn band, and that’s truer than ever on Gaadi Of Truth. In addition to Red Baraat’s Punjabi roots, you’re likely to encounter ’70s-style D.C. go-go beats, hip-hop, funk, trance-inducing South Asian Qawwali sounds and traces of South American cumbia. Red Baraat’s ethnicity underlies its essence and growth in pursuit of fiery, thoughtful music. [NPR]

Brooklyn brass band Red Baraat put out Gaadi of Truth (which the above NPR review is of) a few weeks ago, and its track “Bhangale” was recently given remix treatment by Fool’s Gold co-founder and very active DJ Nick Catchdubs. The song’s already beat-driven, but Nick amps it up into something much more dancefloor-ready with thumping synths and four-on-the-floor drums. His remix premieres in this post and can be streamed below.

Red Baraat are also touring soon. A few of those dates are their ‘Festival of Colors’ shows, which also all include Rupa & the April Fishes. One of the Festival of Colors nights is in NYC on March 8 at Brooklyn Bowl with Brooklyn Raga Massive on the bill as well. Tickets are on sale now, and come with a coupon to get 50% off any bowling lane that night. A day earlier, their tour also hits Bowery Ballroom (3/7). Tickets for that show are on sale too.

All dates are listed, with the new remix and a stream of the full album, below…
