Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds played Kings Theatre (night 1 pics, video, setlist)

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds kicked off their North American tour last night (5/26) at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre. The show was the first of four NYC shows for the band; the second is tonight, when they return to Kings (tickets) and the third and fourth are in June at Beacon Theatre (those are sold out).

Last night saw legendary frontman Cave and his six-piece backing band in excellent form. The show had no opener, and started shortly after 8 PM with a seated Cave singing “Anthrocene” from 2016’s Skeleton Tree. After that song he sat only to sometimes play piano, spending most of his time reaching and gesturing into the outstretched arms of the crowd. The setlist focused on Skeleton Tree material, but also included Cave classics like “Red Right Hand,” “The Mercy Seat,” and “Stagger Lee.” Watch video clips from last night’s show below, and see pictures in the gallery above.

Nick Cave and Warren Ellis scored the new Netflix film War Machine, which came out yesterday (5/26).
