Nick Hook & DJ Earl releasing collab LP next week, share new song ft. Wiki
Electronic musicians Nick Hook and DJ Earl have teamed up for a collaborative album, 50 Backwoods, which will come out on Fool’s Gold Records next week (12/8). DJ Earl makes his singing debut on the album. Here’s some background on how the two came together:
Descendants and kindred spirits of the late DJ Rashad, Hook and Earl only started working together this year. Nick says of their relationship and the project, “we always had a vibe, but after Rashad passed we ended up getting closer. Carrying on Rashad’s legacy is a part of what we do everyday. Earl had played me a ton of new demos, him singing on stuff for the first time, it was just really inspiring. Somewhere in that time we said, we should try and go on tour, and make a record for the tour. We had no plan, except enjoy every second of it. Wiki came thru, Melo-X came thru and we met the illest mc from Jamaica named Jacks. Oh yeah and we smoked 50 backwoods in a week.”
Lead single “Hook Chop” features Wiki, whose No Mountains In Manhattan is one of the best New York rap records of the year. Wik’s delivery is as strong here as it is on NMIM, and he sounds great over NIck Hook and DJ Earl’s production. Listen and check out the tracklist below. Meanwhile, Wiki is on tour now, playing Boston tonight (11/30) and playing a hometown show on December 8 at Irving Plaza with Nick Hakim and Medslaus (tickets).
