Nick Waterhouse covers lost Jan & Dean song on new Record Store Day 7" (listen)

Nick Waterhouse is releasing a new 7″ on Record Store Day. The A-side is “L.A. Turnaround” from last year’s Never Twice, but the B-side is a new recording, “I Try,” that has an interesting history. Nick tells us…

“I Cry” was a long-lost unreleased tune written for Dean & Jean. I first heard courtesy of Dick Vivian’s (Rooky’s Records San Francisco) legendary 1980s mix tapes. It fit right in with the oeuvre of the “Never Twice” sessions so I cut it with my long suffering and highly talented tour backup vocalist Brit Manor taking the lead line and me trying my hand at the cool Everly style harmony. Ron Dziubla rips a tenor solo on this to rival the original.

Check out that ripping tenor solo and the rest of “I Try,” which premieres in this post, below.

Having just been in NYC to play Jonathan Toubin’s big Soul Clap 10th anniversary show, Nick and his band will soon be on tour again, with Midwest and West Coast dates in June. Those dates are listed below.
