Sleepyhead have centered around singer/guitarist Chris O’Rourke and drummer Rachael McNally since 1989 when they formed while students at NYU. With a sound that was both noisy and winsome, Sleepyhead released records on Slumberland, Homestead and other labels in the ’90s. O’Rourke and McNally, now married, still make music and with new bassist Derej Van Beever, Sleepyhead just released Wild Sometimes, their first album in 15 years, via stalwart Chicago indie label Carrot Top. You can stream the whole thing below and check out the video for “Life is Hard” which co-stars the bandmembers’ kids.

Sleepyhead have a couple live dates coming up, including one at NYC’s Union Hall on Saturday (9/13) with The Special Pillow (featuring former Sleepyhead bassist and Hypnolovewheel member Dan Cuddy) and Tim Foljahn (Two Dollar Guitar). Tickets for that show are on sale. The band also have a Boston-area show coming up and dates are listed, along with video and album streams, below…
