Nothing opening AFI's 2017 tour
Popular goth-punks AFI have, for the most part, gone downhill, creatively, since their 2003 major label debut, but the early Nitro Records stuff still rips and at least they’re using their star power to put good small bands in front of large audiences, like Touche Amore and Youth Code. The latest band they’ll do this for is punkgazers Nothing, who dropped the solid Tired of Tomorrow on Relapse this year. Nothing will provide direct support to AFI on the second leg of their 2017 tour (the first leg has Chain Gang of 1974). All dates have Souvenirs opening.
AFI’s 2017 tour hits NYC on February 3 at Terminal 5, though the direct support hasn’t been revealed for this show yet (just them and Souvenirs are billed at the moment). Tickets for T5 go on sale Friday (12/9) at 10 AM. All dates are listed below.
While Nothing may or may not end up on that show, we know for sure that they have two NYC-area appearances this month. Their tour hits the Run For Cover festival at NYC’s Webster Hall on December 14 with Modern Baseball, mewithoutYou and more (tickets), and one of the two Thursday reunion shows at NJ’s Starland Ballroom. They play the 12/30 date which also has Sick Feeling and is sold out.
UPDATE (1/5): As expected, now that Nothing’s Webster Hall show is behind them, they were revealed as an opener on AFI’s Terminal 5 show.
AFI’s upcoming tour is in support of their upcoming tenth album, AFI (The Blood Album), which comes out on January 20 via Concord Music Group and follows 2013’s Burials. So far they’ve released three songs from the album, “Aurelia,” “White Offerings,” and “Snow Cats.” As far as modern-day AFI songs go, they’re not half bad — “White Offerings” evokes pretty strong Sing the Sorrow nostalgia.
