NYC comedy roundup: Aparna Nancherla, Max Silvestri, Josie Long & more

There is never a shortage of comedy events to attend in NYC. Here’s a roundup of some of the funny things coming up in the next couple months.

The Upright Citizens Brigade‘s new Hell’s Kitchen location is now open, and like at the old UCB Chelsea location, it’s schedule is packed with two or three shows nightly, including ever-popular (and often famous-people-filled) ASSSSCAT 3000 on Sundays and Whiplash!on Mondays (Aparna Nancherla and Leo Allen host this Monday, 12/11),

Speaking of Aparna, her weekly show with Jo Firestone, and Maeve Higgins, Butterboy, has been going every Monday for a little over a month now here are upcoming shows/guests:

  • 12/11: Julio Torres, Nore Davis, Katina Corrao, Guy Montgomery, Brooke Van Poppelen, Mary Mack (tickets)
  • 12/18: Naomi Ekperigin, Ashley Brooke Roberts, Joel Kim Booster, Tim Harmston, and more TBA (tickets)
  • 1/8: The Problem with Apu creator Hari Kondabolu, Geoffrey Asmus, and more TBA (tickets)

Speaking of Hari Kondabolu, he and his brother Ashok (aka Dapwell of Das Racist) will be presenting “The Untitled Kondabolu Brothers Project” at Littlefield on December 27 featuring “improvised stories and commentary.” (tickets).

Max Silvestri, who used to co-host Big Terrific here in NYC with Jenny Slate and Gabe Liedman before he left us for Los Angeles, will be back to visit, performing at Littlefield on January 23 (tickets).

Still more Littlefield: Bobby Tisdale, who voices Zeke on Bob’s Burgers, hosts “The Wards of Merkin” on December 15 where he “leads you through the many traditions of our underground club.” Find out what the hell that means and enjoy the comedy stylings of Brett Davis, Ana Fabrega, Doug Smith, John Roberts, and Chris Maxwell along the way (tickets).

Even more LIttlefield There’s also the Holiday Edition of Eliot Glazer‘s Haunting Renditions with his sister Ilana Glazer, and Judy Gold on December 17 (tickets); and Kevin Alison (The State) records a live taping of his podcast Risk! on December 19 (tickets).

Staying in the Gowanus/South Slope neighborhood, great UK comedian Josie Long is at The Bell House on February 1 (tickets), Brian Posehn will be there on February 2 (tickets), and Freddy Got Fingered auteur Tom Green performs on February 8 (tickets). Chris Gethard will record three episodes of his “Beautiful/Anonymous” podcast on on February 7, 13 & 21 (tickets).

Before all that at The Bell House: Neil Hamburger brings the yuks on 12/12 (tickets); “Sasheer Zamata Party Time!” returns on January 21 (tickets).

“The Second Annual Chanukahstravaganza: The Night of a Thousand Jews” will take place at Union Hall on December 12. The show is a benefit for the Anti-Defamation League, with hosts Ilana Michelle Rubin and Lana Schwartz and comedians Charles Gould, Yoni Lotan, Sam Reece, Anna Roisman, Orli Matlow, Ariel Gitlin, Max Dylan Ash,  and Rob Tanchum Tickets are on sale now.

Then on December 13 at Union Hall it’s “Dog Day After Hight, Home for the Holidays!” which is presented by Between Two Bushes and features  Kristen Buckels, Lacey Jeka, Aparna Nancherla, Dan Soder, and Will Miles (tickets).

Still more Union Hall comedy: on December 18 it’s Michelle Buteau and Jordan Carlos‘ #ADULTING with Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson and Eliot Glazer, plus Vinny Guadagnino (tickets); and on 12/19 it’s “The Cheap Date Comedy Show” with Sharron Paul, Calvin Cole, Aparna Nancherla, Joyelle Nicole, Alexis Guerreros, Liz Magee, Courtney Fearrington, and special surprise guests (tickets). And on February 16, Nore Davis will be taping a comedy album across two shows (tickets).

If you want standup in a traditional setting, Village institution The Comedy Cellar (and it’s related nearby venues) have multiple shows every night and over the next few weeks you can catch sets from Judy Gold, Judah Friedlander, Michelle Wolf, Neal Brennan, Mario Joyner, Hasan Minhaj, Keigh Robinson, Todd Barry, Chris Gethard, Ari Shaffir, and more.

Steve Martin and Martin Short are hitting the road as a musical comedy duo.

John Mulaney is now up to 6 Radio City shows!
