NYC Drive-in festival being planned for Yankee Stadium’s parking lot
Drive-in concerts are increasingly being considered as a stop-gap measure to hold shows until they can safely resume the way that we remember them. They've happened in Denmark and Germany in April, and in the US, Keith Urban performed at a surprise drive-in show for around two hundred health care workers and first responders near Nashville, Tennessee earlier this week, as People reports. There are more in the works, too, with EDM artist Marc Rebillet plotting a drive-in tour, the Concerts in Your Car series headed to Texas, and Carnage having recently announced a drive-in festival in Orlando, FL, all in June. NYC is also set to get in on the action; as Time Out New York reports, MASC Hospitality Group, who puts on Bronx Night Market and Bronx Beer Festival, is putting together the Uptown Drive-In, which they're planning to hold at Yankee Stadium's parking lot every weekend in July. They are planning a "carnival-like experience" with live music, car-side food ordering, movies, games, raffles, and giveaways.
Marco Shalma of MASC Hospitality Group told Time Out New York that their plans include an elevated stage that will be visible from cars, and audio broadcasting on car sound systems. "Since we were planning on having the Bronx Night Market, the Bronx Beer Festival and Uptown Epicure Festival running this summer, which was supposed to start in May, we already had a lot of great options available," he told Time Out New York. "Everyone is so excited about the possibility of connecting sooner [at this new experience] than initially planned."
