Taking Meds

NYC punks Taking Meds prep new EP (watch the "Sucks To Be Me" video)

If — back when shows still happened — you went to punk shows in NYC, there’s a good chance you’ve encountered local punks Taking Meds, who have shared bills with Against Me!, Zeta, Stay Inside, Signals Midwest, PEARS, Dikembe, and more. That’s an impressive list, and Taking Meds’ loud, crunchy, catchy sound makes them a perfect band to see at gigs with those bands. Their new EP The Meds You Deserve comes out June 19 via the Smartpunk label (pre-order) and Near Mint (pre-order), and we’re premiering new single “Sucks To Be Me” along with the song’s video.

“We wanted to work with the same dudes we usually do (director Luke LeCount and DP/editor Brad Bush) and also have actual performance shots,” says vocalist/primary songwriter Skylar Sarkis, “but we didn’t want the storyline to be separate from the performance. So we wrote the story into the performance and naturally it falls apart because that’s what we all wanted to see.” The video suits the song well, and the song is a banger. Check it out below.
