Oakland, CA's RAYS were born and bred in the city's fertile underground scene, having come from such bands as The World, Life Stinks, Violent Change and others. The group's dystopian jangle has a lot in common with the first Modern Lovers LP, '80s Flying Nun and the current crop of Australian bands that circle around Mikey Young. In fact Young mastered RAYS' self-titled debut album which was produced by mid-fi maestro Kelley Stoltz and will be out March 30 via Trouble in Mind.

A good example of what RAYS do is "Made of Shadows," a song that is both frantic and catchy, pulled along with warm, drony organ. The video for the song makes its premiere in this post and you can watch it, and listen to "Drop Dead" off the LP, below.
