Odetta Hartman released her second album, Old Rock-Hounds Never Die, today via Northern Spy and Memphis Industries. While rooted in Appalachian and other "old timey" music, she brings a modern approach, sampling sounds and using field recordings from transitions between songs. "Many of the beats on the album were recorded in the kitchen: the snare sound is actually a running faucet, or if you hear these glockenspiel bells that’s actually a set of kitchen bowls," says Odetta. "Other percussive elements include scissors, a pepper grinder and keys on the radiator." Her warm voice, inventive percussion and captivating songs are the real stars here and you can stream the whole album below.

Odetta will be on tour with Let's Eat Grandma in September (that's a well-matched double bill), and East Coast shows are also with Boniface. That tour hits Brookyln's Baby's All Right on 9/12 (sold out). She's got a few UK/EU dates as well -- all are listed below.
