Olof from The Knife now in Hiya wal Aalam, touring the US, also DJing Baby's with "secret special guests"

Hiya Wal Aalam

The Knife may be broken up, but we already knew Karin was staying busy and Olof Dreijer is too. He’s now a member of the group Hiya wal Âalam, and he’s producing their forthcoming album. The band’s bio reads:

Hiya wal Âalam is a collaboration between a group of musicians from Tunisia and Palestine, as well as the prolific Olof Dreijer (one half of the acclaimed Swedish electronic duo, The Knife).

The group of five is led by the composer and percussionist Houwaida Hedfi. Traditional North African percussion instruments like bendir, djembe and chkachek are at the heart of the music. Olof Dreijer was inspired to collaborate, bringing an electronic component to the project, he states, “Hopefully our audiences will get moved emotionally and move physically! I got goosebumps the first time I heard the songs live and I couldn’t stand still!”

They’re touring Sweden and the US this month, including a NYC show happening November 23 at Knitting Factory with Amina Hocine and Wolkoff. Tickets are on sale.

Two days before that though, Olof will DJ Baby’s All Right (11/21) with a live set from secret special guests. Who could they be? Tickets are on sale.
