Swedish prog-death legends Opeth are finally streaming their new album Sorceress. After the long promotional cycle and the release of songs like "The Wilde Flowers," "Will O Th' Wisp," and "Sorceress," you can hear this beast in its entirety.

Sorceress is both typical of Opeth's post-Watershed output and something of a break from the past two albums Harvest and Pale Communion. Where those albums doubled down on classic prog at the expense of all else, the new album takes something of a simpler approach. Dealing in lush '70s era folk and dipping back into some death metal grooves on tracks like "Chrysalis" and the title track, Mikael Akerfeldt's songwriting here feels nicely unburdened, like he's really just writing what he feels like (which has probably always been the case, but there's a variety here that feels like a liberation from some of the high-concept material of recent albums). It's not the most consistent Opeth album, and there are a few clunkers, but it also contains some of their strongest songs in years ("Era" and "The Wilde Flowers" are particular highlights). Opeth of course have that giant tour coming up with The Sword (it actually starts tonight). They hit NYC for that special Deliverance/Damnation show at Radio City Music Hall this weekend (10/1). Tickets for that are still on sale.
