Orville Peck signs to Columbia, preps new EP ft. Shania Twain (stream a new song)
Following his 2019 Sub Pop debut, Pony, masked country singer Orville Peck has signed with Columbia Records, who will release his new Show Pony EP on June 12. "I loved my experience with Pony," says Orville. "However, Show Pony is a more confident perspective and allows me to share even more both lyrically and musically. Like all country albums, Show Pony is a little collection of stories – some sad, some happy – and I am excited for people to hear it. Working with Shania was a dream come true, her music made me feel empowered as a kid and was a huge influence on me."
As he hints in that quote, the EP features an appearance by fellow Canadian Shania Twain on the song "Legends Never Die." There's also a cover of Bobbie Gentry's "Fancy," and recent single "Summertime." With this news Orville's dropped lonesome cowboy ballad "No Glory in the West," that comes with a beautifully shot video that has him in Jeremiah Johnson mode -- just him, his horse and snowcapped mountains.
