Brazil's tropicalia-psych icons Os Mutantes will be back in the U.S. this summer to play a few dates on both coasts, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC, and Philadelphia. Currently the final date on their tour is July 15 at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC (moved from its original location/date at Brooklyn club Warsaw 7/14) for a mini-version of Chile's En Orbita festival that also has A Place to Bury Strangers, Yonatan Gat, Lee Ranaldo, Martin Rev, Land in the Sky and Breaking Forms on the bill. Tickets for En Orbita go on sale at noon.
In addition to the music, there's a science element to En Orbita, with panels and exhibitions curated in collaboration with the MIT Media Lab Space Exploration Initiative. Nicole L'Huillier, a Chilean artist, architect, and musician, will be presenting the work she's done with the initiative, which "explores the connections between sound and vision, as well as what human expression means in outer space." More info is here.
A Place to Bury Strangers are touring the U.S. as we speak.
