Osheaga 2017 Friday pics (Lorde, MGMT, Car Seat Headrest, more)

The 2017 edition of Osheaga kicked off on Friday (8/4) at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal. Like Lollapalooza, which happened the same weekend, Osheaga’s first day was plagued by inclement weather; it rained for much of the day, and sets were temporarily put on hold during the worst of the storm. Once music resumed, attendees found themselves faced with a reshuffled schedule and cancelled acts: De La Soul and Noname both cancelled due to “travel issues,” and Angel Olsen never got to play. Another cancellation had nothing to do with the weather: Solange dropped off Saturday’s lineup the day before she was due to play, citing, like she did at Boston Calling, production issues.

Lorde headlined in the rain, and she had some surprises in store. She brought out Tove Lo during “Homemade Dynamite,” and covered Martha Wainwright’s “Bloody Mother Fucking Asshole.” Watch video of those two set highlights below.

We missed The Shins after set times changed, but they ended their set with a cover of Tom Petty’s “American Girl,” which you can watch below as well.

Friday at Osheaga also included sets from MGMT, Justice, Hamilton Leithuaser, 6lack, Car Seat Headrest, and more. Check out pictures in the gallery above, and stay tuned for more from Osheaga.
