Pale Angels announce new album & tour (listen to first single, "If Only You're Gone")

by Andrew Sacher

Pale Angels

We profiled NJ/Wales punks Pale Angels in our Fest preview last year, and at the time their only album was 2013’s Primal Play. They’re now set to release its followup, Imaginary People, on April 6 via Specialist Subject/Recess Records. Like the last album, they recorded it with Ben Greenberg (ex-The Men, currently Uniform and Hubble), and for this one they’ve got new drummer Chris Krause on board. Mikey Erg played on their debut.

We’ve got the premiere of the album’s first single, “If Only You’re Gone,” a noisy, shambolic dose of garage punk that rips as hard as everything we’ve heard from the band thus far. Recording with a former member of The Men makes sense here, as anyone who dug that band’s Open Your Heart era will probably dig this too. Of course that also means fans of The Replacements, The Gun Club, or any handful of SST’s mid-’80s bands may have a soft spot for Pale Angels as well. Check it out, along with the album tracklist, below. That’s the artwork above.

Pale Angels also have an extensive tour of the UK, Canada and the US coming up this spring. The tour wraps up in Brooklyn on May 6 at Coco 66. Other bands TBA, and tickets should be on sale soon. UPDATE: The show was moved and happens May 6 at The Shop, also with Big Eyes, Young Ladies and Such Hounds. Tickets are on sale now.
