Pale Lights releasing new 7″ for Slumberland Singles Series (Odd Hope too)
Indie label Slumberland Records has been celebrating its 30th anniversary with the SLR 30 Singles Subscription Series that's releasing 13 new 7"s over 18 months. They've already released singles from Wildhoney, Lake Ruth, Rat Columns, The Suncharms and more, and the next two are from Brooklyn's Pale Lights and San Francisco's Odd Hope.
Pale Lights' single is the jangly and super-catchy "You and I" that recalls classic '80s UK indie. "To be able to release a 7" for the Singles Club is a great honor," says frontman Phil Sutton. "I've never written a single especially, so this was a challenge. But I think it's a goer! We're channeling some Comet Gain and Orange Juice, with a dash of Gary Olson trumpet." You can definitely hear Orange Juice in this one and Phil actually used to be a member of Comet Gain so that comes through too.
Odd Hope's "All the Things" has a little more of a power-pop vibe to it, but still in a classic indiepop kind of way that fits in with Slumberland's rich history (Black Tambourine, Aislers Set, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart). Both songs make their premiere in this post and you can listen below and subscribe to SLR 30 here.
Meanwhile, Pale Lights will play NYC's Berlin Under A on March 6 with Holy Tunics and Kevin Hairs. That's right before a short trip to Europe for a few shows, including a Paris date with Slumberland band Jeanines. Pale Lights dates are below.
