Panda Bear releases new song; Avey Tare playing NYC

Panda Bear released his new album Buoys back in February, and today he released a new non-album single, “playing the long game,” which he had also been playing live on his tour supporting Buoys. Like Buoys, Panda Bear made this one with longtime collaborator Rusty Santos (who also worked on Person Pitch and Animal Collective’s Sung Tongs), but while Buoys was sort of a return to the acoustic guitars of AnCo/Panda Bear’s freak folk days, “playing the long game” is cut from the same electronic psych-pop cloth as most of Panda’s other post-Person Pitch work. The song comes with a Fernanda Pereira-directed video, and on the song and video, Panda Bear says:

We had a good time making this video across the river. Thanks to everyone involved to make it happen. The song is about a brief series of thoughts I had one morning about who I am, what I’m doing, and where I’m going. Hope you enjoy it and hope all’s well.
