Park Church Co-Op given 9-month funding extension, will still host shows

After a rumor circulated that Greenpoint’s gorgeous Park Church Co-Op (which also hosts concerts) would be closing on April 6, and we noticed a few shows booked there had moved to other venues, we reached out to the church for clarification and there is some good news. The church has been given a nine month extension of funding from the Metropolitan New York Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, and they tell us that concerts will still happen there “for the time being.” After their grant funders stop funding at the end of 2018, the church “will have to make a lot of changes in order to stay open beyond that,” and they’re still figuring out if that’s something they can try to make happen.

The church does continue to need your help, and they’re asking for monthly donations that you can leave via PayPal at their website. Here’s their official update:

To the members of the Park Church Co-op Community,

We are excited to announce that the Park Church Co-op has been given a 9 month extension of funding from the Metropolitan New York Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America! Thank you to those who wrote letters expressing how much this ministry means to you. It made an impact and we now have an opportunity to show how much the community loves this church.

With this uplifting news also comes some responsibility. We’ve all experienced a wake up call that Park Church’s continued service to the community will depend on your reliable support. We must cultivate our spiritual community and develop a fundraising model that is sustainable in the long term, eventually leading to our financial independence. We need to meet goals for growth by the end of this year in order to continue our ministry in Greenpoint.

With that being said we encourage you all to attend our Sunday worship services at 11AM. We’d like to hear your suggestions for how this space can serve your faith life in whatever shape or form you love to express it. We plan to roll out a fundraising campaign that will reward monthly sustainable giving as it is a sign of a commitment to supporting our work longterm. Regular giving will be a much stronger model for us and will show how much the community really does rely on Park Church Co-op. We look forward to working with you all over the next 9 months! We will send more details soon and are happy to take any questions, suggestions or comments.

You can give your monthly recurring donation through PayPal on our website: www.parkchurchcoop.org
