New York's literary punk legend Patti Smith has a lot coming up as usual. She'll be continuing to support her book M Train, and will do so as part of the Brooklyn By The Book series in September. She'll be at Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope (274 Garfield Pl) on September 15. Tickets are on sale now, and each comes with a copy of the book.

A description of the book from the program site reads:

Patti Smiths M Train describes the odyssey of a legendary artist through cafés and haunts around the world. In prose that flows between dreams and reality, past and present, we travel to Frida Kahlos Casa Azul in Mexico; to the fertile moon terrain of Iceland; to a ramshackle seaside bungalow in New Yorks Far Rockaway just before Hurricane Sandy; to the West 4th Street subway station, filled with the sounds of the Velvet Underground after the death of Lou Reed; and to the graves of Genet, Plath, Rimbaud, and Mishima. Braiding despair with hope and consolation, and illustrated with her signature Polaroids, M Train is a meditation on travel, detective shows, literature, and coffee from the National Book Award-winning author of Just Kids.

Patti Smith will also be opening the Lincoln Center Out of Doors series on July 20 at Damrosch Park Bandshell with "a night of words and music" with Lenny Kaye and Tony Shanahan. All-women Latin group Mariachi Flor de Toloache will also be performing. That event is free.

Following that event, Patti Smith will begin a tour of Europe with the same "words and music" theme. She's also got that Hollywood Bowl show in LA with Bon Iver (tickets), and like she did in NYC last year, she'll play Horses in full in Chicago this year. The show is the day before New Year's Eve (12/30), and tickets are on sale.

As mentioned, she has a Nico tribute album, Killer Road, coming out, and a song off of that is streaming below. In related news, there's a free, day-long tribute to Lou Reed on July 30 at Lincoln Center. That event is also a part of the Lincoln Center Out of Doors series.
