City Winery’s series of Haiti benefit concerts kicked off last night (1/20) with an all-star lineup that included Patti Smith, The Swell Season (they headlined Radio City Music Hall one night earlier), The Antlers, John Wesley Harding, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Yo La Tengo, Young People’s Chorus of New York City, Tiempo Libre and Joshua Bell. Everyone played short sets, especially the unannounced guest Michael Stipe who actually only read something and introduced his friend Patti Smith.
