The 2017 Red Bull Music Academy kicked off on Saturday (4/29) with "Fluxo: Funk Proibidao" which was "a celebration of Brazil’s vital and explicit bass music movement." It was held at the new location of Villain, a raw events space that specializes in tranformative environments. In this case, they aimed to recreate Brazil's fluxos (block parties), with five or so subwoofer-fitted hatchbacks, beaming spotlights and strobes, a tropical bar, fog machines, and more.

Unfortunately, the headliner for the night, MC Bin Laden (who has an EP coming out soon on True Panther), had visa issues and didn't make it to the party, but the night featured MC Carol, DJ Assault, Sicko Mobb, Venus X & Asmara (Putaria Maxima), Leo Justi, and Tom DJ. Pictures from "Fluxo: Funk Proibidao" are in the gallery above.
