Television / Viet Cong / Lower Dens @ House of Vans 10/8/2015
Though they haven’t had a regular schedule as in years past, House of Vans has been throwing sporadic shows since the spring, the latest of which was on Thursday (10/8) with iconic NYC band Television, Candian group Viet Cong and Baltimore’s Lower Dens. Television’s hour-long set only featured four songs, including a 20-minute workout of “Persia.” Viet Cong are in bit of a weird situation right now, still playing shows under their old name despite having announced that they’re changing it to something still TBD (they’ve got a West Coast tour booked as well), but didn’t seem too bothered by it on stage. If there was any dissent from the crowd, I didn’t hear it. They were good. And, despite HoV’s boomy sound, this was the best I’ve seen Lower Dens. Jana Hunter is coming into her own as a frontperson, loosening up a little and even cracked a few jokes.
Lots of folks were just there to hang out and enjoy the free beverages, staying mainly in the large carnival-esque backyard. More pictures from Thursday’s show are below.
