UPDATE: find a second set of pictures from Friday at Pitchfork Festival HERE.

The 2017 edition of Pitchfork Festival kicked off yesterday (7/14) at Union Park in Chicago. In previous years Fridays at Pitchfork have had a later start than Saturdays and Sundays, but this year, as you may have seen on the livestream, Madame Gandhi got the day off to a strong start with her 1 PM set. LCD Soundsystem headlined, sticking to a setlist similar to what they played during their June residency at Brooklyn Steel, minus the encore; see that setlist below. Of LCD’s Pitchfork set, the Chicago Tribune says:

LCD Soundsystem’s headlining set arrives at a moment of sublime convergence as “You Wanted a Hit” melt into “Tribulations.” The reunited band indulges in some good-natured complaining at the outset as it counts down its maladies: “a couple of bad backs and a f—– up knee.” But with the thunderous percussion breakdown in “Get Innocuous” it finds its stride. Even a new track, “Call the Police,” doesn’t stifle the momentum, and raises hopes that LCD’s forthcoming studio album will be a match for the three LP’s it released before a five-year hiatus began in 2011. The same can’t be said for another new one, the tepid “American Dream,” but overall, it’s LCD picking up where it left off

Arca, Dirty Projectors, Kamaiyah, Danny Brown, Frankie Cosmos, Thurston Moore, Vince Staples, Hiss Golden Messenger, Dawn Richard, and Priests also played Friday at Pitchfork Fest. Check out pictures from the whole day in the gallery above, and stay tuned for more.

If you’re not in Chicago for this year’s festival, you can still stream some sets live; the Saturday streaming schedule includes Angel Olsen, Cherry Glazerr, Jeff Rosenstock, Mitski, Arab Strap, The Feelies, S U R V I V E, and more. Find a full list of set times HERE.
