Pixies @ Chicago’s Metro 6/10/2015

Overall, Deal or not, they played really well, and they seemed into it. Like I said above, the last time I saw them, at Riot Fest, and maybe even the time before that, they seemed bored and going through the motions. Maybe the opportunity to headline for diehards–for surely far less money than they make at festivals–ignited something fun in them. It certainly showed in the set list, right? It wasn’t a greatest-hits run through or an insistence on the new stuff: They played five songs from Indie Cindy–a way to say they like the record, I guess–but also hits (“Wave Of Mutilation,” “Here Comes Your Man,” “Debaser,” “Velouria”) and deep-ish cuts (“I’ve Been Tired,” “Cactus”). – AV Club

Last Wednesday (6/10), Pixies were supposed to open for Robert Plant at Chicago’s FirstMerit Bank Pavillon, but when the onetime Led Zeppelin frontman got ill and canceled, Pixies ended up up playing Metro, which they hadn’t played since 1989. It was also guitarist Joey Santiago’s birthday, making for an extra fun evening. Pics and setlist are in this post.

Tonight (6/18), Pixies will back in the Boston area to help say goodbye to Cambridge, MA’s club T.T. The Bear’s Place which is closing after 41 years. Tonight’s show will mark the first time the Pixies have played T.T. The Bear’s since 1987, which was not too long after Surfer Rosa was released.
