Polaris Music Prize 2020 Long List: Owen Pallett, Caribou, Kaytranada, US Girls, more
Canada's Polaris Music Prize, which honors the best Canadian album of the year, has announced its Long List for the 2020 edition. The 40 albums on the list include four by previous winners: Caribou's Suddenly, Owen Pallett's Island, Kaytranada's Bubba, and Lido Pimienta's Miss Colombia. The list also features Quand la nuit tombe by Louis-Jean Cormier who used to lead Montreal's Karkwa (who's album Chemins de verre won in 2010).
Other nominees: Cindy Lee's What's Tonight to Eternity?, The Weeknd's After Hours, Andy Shauf's The Neon Skyline, US Girls' Heavy Light, Corridor's Junior, and Jessie Reyez's Before Love Came to Kill Us, and dvsn's A Muse In Her Feelings.
The Long List was chosen by a panel of 199 Canadian jurors, who will then whittle it down to a 10-album shortlist that will be announced on July 15, with the Polaris Prize to be given out at a ceremony this fall (details TBA).
