Porches

Last night Porches played a free Brooklynvegan-presented show at Baby’s All Right. It was a packed house and the band played a lot of new material which further shifts the band into dancier directions. It’s not synthpop, though. Porches make danceable, shimmery pop with rock instruments (keyboards too), in an ’80s-sorta way. (Very similar to what Canadian bands TOPS and Seoul are doing.) This was my first time seeing them and they have a dedicated following (there were a number of sing-a-longs). It will be interesting to hear how these songs turn out on record. Pictures from their set are in this post.

Empress Of DJ’d and kept the crowd in the performance room entertained, while myself and fellow BV editor Andrew Sacher DJ’d in the front room, a carryover from a Happy Hour BrooklynVegan also presented with complimentary Pacifico beer and $1 tacos. It was a good time if I do say so.

$1 tacos plus alligator lamps. Why haven’t I’ve been here before?!?
