Protomartyr share "Don't Go to Anacita," put new LP in jukeboxes early

Protomartyr‘s excellent new album Relatives in Descent is out this Friday and they’ve just shared “Don’t Go to Anacita,” one of the more immediately catchy tracks off the LP. The titular city is a fictional one of frontman Joe Casey’s creation, a Stepford type place where “the liberal-minded here, they close their eyes and dream / Of technology and kombucha / The anti-vagrant system sounds like 20 dollar bills / being sorted in a counter.” All set to a fierce, rousing punk chorus. Listen to that below.

Instead of offering up a pre-release album stream of Relatives in Descent, Protomartyr quietly placed CD copies of it into a few jukeboxes in Brooklyn (The Levee in Williamsburg and Old Stanley’s in Bushwick) and Wayne County, MI (Bumbo’s in Hamtramck and Bronx Bar in Detroit). The “video” for “Don’t Go to Anacita” was shot at The Levee.

They were also selling the album early at last weekend’s Brooklyn Flea Record Fair, and at their “Boatomartyr” record release show which was aboard the Detroit Princess and also featured performances from Preoccupations, Tyvek, ADULT., Matthew Dear, plus screenings of Captain Ron and Waterworld.

Protomartyr will begin their fall tour at this weekend’s Music Tastes Good festival in Long Beach, CA and their tour hits Brooklyn’s Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 28 with Flasher and Weeping Icon (tickets). Updated dates are listed below.
