Pylon Reenactment Society releasing new single (listen), touring

Vanessa Briscoe Hay is keeping the spirit of her classic post-punk group, Pylon, alive with the Pylon Reenactment Society, which features her backed by a group of Athens, GA music scene regulars including Jason NeSmith (Casper & The Cookies) on guitar, Kay Stanton (Casper & The Cookies) on bass guitar and backing vocals, Damon Denton (Big Atomic) on keyboards, and Joe Rowe (The Glands) on drums. They’ve been performing for a few years now, and released a live EP, featuring classic Pylon songs like “Beep,” “Buzz” and “Crazy,” via Chunklet Industries.

Now PRS back with a new 7″ on Chunklet featuring two brand new songs. We’ve got the premiere of “Cliff Notes,” which is very much in the nervy, danceable Pylon tradition: angular riffs played at breakneck speed with just a touch of Southern twang, and Vanessa’s attitude-filled vocals sounding great as ever. Listen to that, and the other song on the single, “Messenger,” below.

PRS just played one of the big birthday party shows of Chunklet founder Henry Owings, and they’ve got West Coast dates in December, hitting Seattle, Sacramento, San Francisco and Los Angeles. They’ve also just announced a Brooklyn show, happening January 5 at Market Hotel with THICK, and KAG (aka Katie Alice Greer of Priests). Tickets for Market Hotel are on sale now.
