R Kelly’s NYC show cancelled (due to… Hurricane Florence?)
Despite years of abuse allegations against him, R. Kelly was booked to play NYC's Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden this Saturday (9/15). The concert has now been cancelled, though the show's promoter, Victory Promotions, tells SPIN the cancellation is because of Hurricane Florence. "The representative said that the storm would make it difficult for the production crew working the concert to travel to New York," a representative for Victory Promotions said over the phone to SPIN. The representative also said "[ticket] sales were not a factor in the decision to cancel the show," though the show was far from sold out, as you can see in a recent screenshot below.
Last month, a representative for MSG told SPIN: "MSG has a long history of not censoring performers. We believe artists have the right to rent our venues to put on their own event, and that the public then has the choice whether or not to support that event."
