Cleanup in Aisle 6: Real Estate @ Crest Hardware, 12/7/2012
Real Estate

Despite a cold and rainy Metropolitan Ave greeting their fans, Real Estate's warm vibes took the damp chill off the evening, playing amongst socket wrenches, cans of paint and copper tubing this afternoon (12/7) at Williamsburg institution Crest Hardware. The show was part of the RCRDLBL's "Normal Crashing Tour" that puts bands in unusual places in cities across the country. Unusual places... you know, like the houseplant aisle at a hardware store.

The line was seemingly at capacity by the time I walked up at 5PM, and doors opened around 5:45 with the band taking to the stage slightly before 6PM. The vestibule of the store was packed to the gills, but the mellow mood of Real Estate's reverb-y jams made the oddity of a band in a home improvement store seem semi-normal. (Mind you this is a hardware store that has yearly popular art show). The band's sound is sunny, relaxing and comforting. The kind of jams that make you forget about the dreary downpour going down on a evening like tonight, and remind you to get a new set of keys made.
